Review:
Characters: Luce Price has been through a lot in the last three books. You might even think that her character can't develop much more. I thought the exact same thing for about half the book. However, after that I saw her character develop ever so slightly to make way for a huge revelation near the end. I'm talking about a shocking revelation that will leave you on the edge of your seat. We will also see how Daniel and Luce first met. We will see who Luce was and what she was doing at the time of their meeting. We even get to see snippets of a few other lives between Luce and Daniel. Daniel will have to make choices that will affect his future with Luce.
Romance: Obviously Luce and Daniel tragic love affair will take center stage once again in this Swan Song. However, I was surprised by the lack of any sort of a mention or nod to a love triangle with Cam. I mean it was there but seemed more implied and not as out spoken as I would have liked. I really like Cam's character and the relationship he has with Daniel and Luce, but I wish that the author would have acknowledged Luce and Cam's attraction more. However, even though she didn't I was still very satisfied with the romance in this book, especially with the surprising previous love of Luce's that is revealed.
Portrayal of Religion: Like most novels about angels this series has some pretty interesting twists on the religions of the world. Since this series seems focused on the Christian faith I was surprised to find out God, or The Throne, is female. I am all for female empowerment and everything, but I am pretty sure that most, if not all, Christian believe God to be male. I don't condemn the author for this however, she had every right to change whatever detail she wanted since it's her novel. I was just shocked that she decided to change that detail. Besides that detail I saw no other contradictions with the Christian religion.
Predictability: This was a large selling point for me. Most of the time I was completely caught off guard as to what the author intended to do. Every new discovery was a fun surprise or a shocking reveal. I rarely knew what the author intended and when I did it didn't make much of a difference. The big reveals were powerful and left me speechless many times.
Ending: With this being the final installment in this series I was hoping for a nice epilogue that will leave the book feeling finished. I am happy to report that was how the book ended. There was a nice epilogue that left no questions unanswered and gave an overwhelming and overarching sense of finality to the series. Everything fit into place and was one of the most sentimental and heartwarming endings that I have ever read.

Everything about this book was great, however something in me can't seem to give it 5 stars. It most definitely warrants a buy, however don't forget to read the other books in the series first. If money's tight don't be afraid to check your local library for these books as well

ReplyDeleteawesome review.. i've read the fallen books in the series and realy loved them but i havent read the last one yet.. maybe because i know it's the last book and im afraid, i might be disapointed!! After this review i made up my mind...
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Rapture, it finished off the series much better than I had expected.I was left a little bit put out with Torment, but Rapture was simply brilliant.

ReplyDeleteI really like this book series, I wanted to read more about Cam and Luce as well but you cannot have everything. I enjoy the end, it's simple and still strong. I think it was an only ending for this book so I have no complains about it. Nice review :)

I mean, I love the series and all, but the way Ms. Kate just took Cam out of the story seemed like a big gap. Granted the story is not a love triangle despite how it seems to be a trend in pop culture, I still think Cam was a more important character and deserved a better ending. I finished the book wondering where the heck Cam went and a little angry that the world of Fallen had to be contained in only 5 books. The last book was good, but a few times, it was as if the story was rushed to be finished like the quests and the abrupt mini stories. There wasn't that much level of detail to tie up the amazing story she created.
