Book Review: The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey #2) by Julie Kagawa

Note: If you haven't read The Iron King the first book in this series check out my review on it, as this one will contain spoilers for the first book.

Review:

Characters: This book starts off with Meghan trapped in the Unseelie court, feeling alone and abandoned by the prince she loved. She has not only lost her confidence but now her feary powers as well. Once a valuable object in the Winter/Summer Fey treaty is stolen tensions are high. With a war on the horizon Meghan and Ash have to find what was lost and return it before more blood is spilled. Now with her loyalties tested and her trust slowly crumbling, she needs to face her fears and insecurities and step up to her most fearsome challenge yet.

Romance: So, in this book the love triangle heats up as Puck reveals his true feelings. Now she has to choose between the boy who she thinks abandoned her when she needed him most and her best friend in the whole world. One thing I hate most about romances in books is if they get co-dependent, it's not healthy and even though it happens it's not something that authors need to write into an endgame relationship, so I was so happy to see that even though Meghan was depressed when she thought Ash abandoned her, she wasn't helpless without him, which not only makes for a stronger character but a healthier relationship.

World-Building: One of the things we get to see is a lot more of the winter court. In Winter's Passage we got to see some more of the Winter territory, however in this book we get to see what the court is actually like and get a glimpse inside Ash's relationship with his siblings. We also get to go to where many exiled fey go, a dimension in between the Nevernever and our dimension. We learn a bit about it's ruler and Meghan has an encounter with someone from her past.

Predictability: The funniest part about this was that most of the predictable information has to do with the next book, while most of the things revealed in this book weren't as predictable. Even though when I finished this I knew a lot about where the next book was going to go, it didn't ruin either this book or the next for me. I found myself loving a few amazing twists and wondering where the story was going to go from there, or well, how it was going to get from point A to point B, since I had a good idea where it was going.

Ending: The ending is a mixture of heartbreaking and beautifully tragic. It was definitely something that caught me off guard and lead to my concerns about how the next book would progress. I loved how unpredictable the future is even though you know a bit, it makes the journey into the next adventure all the more fun and exciting.

Overall, I'm giving this book 5 out of 5 stars it's a fun and exhilarating ride and definitely picks up in action from the previous installment. When I finished this I couldn't wait to get to the next installment.
