The Traitor Prince (Ravenspire #3) by C.J. Redwine (WOW #26)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

Javan Najafai, crown prince of Akram, has spent the last ten years at an elite boarding school, far away from his kingdom. But his eagerly awaited return home is cut short when a mysterious imposter takes his place—and no one believes Javan is the true prince.

After barely escaping the imposter’s assassins, Javan is thrown into Maqbara, the kingdom’s most dangerous prison. The only way to gain an audience with the king — and reveal Javan’s identity — is to fight in Maqbara’s yearly tournament. But winning is much harder than acing competitions at school, and soon Javan finds himself beset not just by the terrifying creatures in the arena, but also a band of prisoners allied against him, and even the warden herself.

The only person who can help him is Sajda, who has been enslaved by Maqbara’s warden since she was a child, and whose guarded demeanor and powerful right hook keep the prisoners in check. Working with Sajda might be the only way Javan can escape alive — but she has dangerous secrets.

Together, Javan and Sajda have to outwit the vicious warden, outfight the deadly creatures, and outlast the murderous prisoners intent on killing Javan. If they fail, they’ll be trapped in Maqbara for good—and the secret Sajda’s been hiding will bury them both.

The Traitor Prince releases on February 13, 2018, from Balzer + Bray

Gah! I need this book in my hands right this second. First off, the cover is PURPLE!!!! Secondly, this author has already written two fantastic standalone installments in this series and while I'm not as familiar with the story that this installment is based upon, the Arabian folktale called The False Prince, I still can't wait to see what new adventure this author will take me on next. Another thing I love is that while these books are standalone and you don't have to read the others if you do the world really starts to take shape before your eyes. This installment looks like it's full of action and a rather heated romance. I love how this author is shaping this world and I have been chomping at the bit for this book for months and now it finally has a cover and title and it's becoming so real. I'm already scouring Edelweiss every day making sure I can get my hands on it as soon as humanly possible.

The Battlemage (Summoner #3) by Taran Matharu (WOW #25)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

One boy's ability to summon demons will change the fate of an empire ... The epic conclusion to the fantasy trilogy described as 'Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings meets Pokemon'.

After the thrilling cliffhanger at the end of book two, we rejoin Fletcher and his friends in the ether, where they must undertake a mortally dangerous quest, all the while avoiding capture by enemies and facing foes more terrifying than anything they have yet encountered.

But this is nothing compared to what truly lies ahead for Fletcher, as his nemesis, albino orc Khan, is on a mission to destroy Hominum and everything and everyone that Fletcher loves.

Epic battles, dramatic revelations, and breathtaking drama await in the third and final book in the New York Times bestselling Summoner series.

The Battlemage releases on May 9, 2017, from Feiwel + Friends

Since the first two books in this series involve either main or secondary antagonists that are what I call "entitled assholes" who make life extremely difficult for our protagonist, leading me to hurt with fury and helplessness, I'm not quite sure if I'm ready for this book, luckily I still have some time. However, these books are exquisite, they are addicting and full of magic and mystery.

Collide by Michelle Madow (WOW #24)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

I should have died when I was shot at the Halloween dance.

Instead, I woke up—one week earlier, in a parallel universe where my mom's fatal car accident six months ago never happened.

A world with my mom still in it was all I ever wanted. But in this timeline, everything is different—my grades, my friends, and even my boyfriend. I'm a stranger in my own body, and I don’t like who I’ve become.

But one thing is the same—that shooting will still happen at the end of the week.

I'm the only one who knows. Which means I'm the only one who can stop it.

But first I need to convince someone—anyone—that I’m telling the truth... and then get them to help me.

Collide releases on February 9, 2017, from Dreamscape Publishing

Ooooooh, you guys this sounds good. Okay, so Madow's books in the past for me have been kind of hit or miss, granted they were mostly hits, and I am a tad hesitant about this one, but it does sound really interesting and the cover is just visually stunning. Plus I'm a sucker for time-travel/alternate universe fiction!

The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes #2) by Brittany Cavallaro (WOW #23)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

In the second brilliant, action-packed book in the Charlotte Holmes trilogy, Jamie and Charlotte are in a chase across Europe to untangle a web of shocking truths about the Holmes and Moriarty families.

Jamie Watson and Charlotte Holmes are looking for a winter break reprieve in Sussex after a fall semester that almost got them killed. But nothing about their time off is proving simple, including Holmes and Watson’s growing feelings for each other. When Charlotte’s beloved uncle Leander goes missing from the Holmes estate—after being oddly private about his latest assignment in a German art forgery ring—the game is afoot once again, and Charlotte throws herself into a search for answers.

So begins a dangerous race through the gritty underground scene in Berlin and glittering art houses in Prague, where Holmes and Watson discover that this complicated case might change everything they know about their families, themselves, and each other.

The Last of August releases on February 14, 2017, from Katherine Tegan Books

I'm a huge sucker for Sherlockian inspired books, and when I read the first book in the Charlotte Holmes series last year I got hooked to this sort of unconventional Sherlock tale. The modern day setting, female Holmes, and male narrator in the form of Jamie Watson were all amazing, and to top it off there's very little romance, in fact there's really only a small hint at a romance. I can't wait to see how these characters will evolve in this next installment and the mystery our heroes will find themselves in the middle of!

The Wish Granter (Ravenspire #2) by C.J. Redwine (WOW #22)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

An epic, romantic, and action-packed fantasy inspired by the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, about a bastard princess who must take on an evil fae to save her brother’s soul, from C. J. Redwine, the New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Queen. Perfect for fans of Graceling and the Lunar Chronicles.

The world has turned upside down for Thad and Ari Glavan, the bastard twins of Súndraille’s king. Their mother was murdered. The royal family died mysteriously. And now Thad sits on the throne of a kingdom whose streets are suddenly overrun with violence he can’t stop.

Growing up ignored by the nobility, Ari never wanted to be a proper princess. And when Thad suddenly starts training Ari to take his place, she realizes that her brother’s ascension to the throne wasn’t fate. It was the work of a Wish Granter named Alistair Teague who tricked Thad into wishing away both the safety of his people and his soul in exchange for the crown.

So Ari recruits the help of Thad’s enigmatic new weapons master, Sebastian Vaughn, to teach her how to fight Teague. With secret ties to Teague’s criminal empire, Sebastian might just hold the key to discovering Alistair’s weaknesses, saving Ari’s brother—and herself.

But Teague is ruthless and more than ready to destroy anyone who dares stand in his way—and now he has his sights set on the princess. And if Ari can’t outwit him, she’ll lose Sebastian, her brother…and her soul.

The Wish Granter releases on February 14, 2017, from Balzer + Bray

Gah! I can't wait to start this book! I read The Shadow Queen last year and really enjoyed it. When I first heard the title for this installment I expected an Aladdin retelling, but was happier to discover a Rumpelstiltskin retelling instead. Not that I wouldn't have like an Aladdin retelling, but a Rumpelstiltskin retelling was a really nice surprise. I like that this all appears to be contained to one kingdom, instead of spread over two like the previous one, and I'm chomping at the bit to see if there's any sort of crossover than just the fact that the two books exist in the same world.

Cage of Darkness releases on April 4, 2017, from Reign Publishing

I discovered the Reign of Secrets series nearly a year and a half ago, and entering this world is one of best reading decisions I've made. If you're new to this series and haven't read the True Reign series by the same author I highly recommend starting there, because while I'm sure you'll enjoy the first tale in this series, you'll have a much deeper appreciation for the world and it's characters if you start at the beginning. I'm more than excited to return to this world and continue where we left off. The new covers for this series are unspeakably fantastic and they've only made me more enthusiastic to return. if you haven't read anything by Davis yet I implore you to remedy that immediately, her writing and world building are phenomenal and her characters are so vivid and realistic.

Tricked (Fairy Tale Reform School #3) by Jen Calonita (WOW #20)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

Things are changing at Fairy Tale Reform School.

At least, that's what Gilly's heard through the Enchantasia rumor mill. Word is, notorious trickster Rumpelstiltskin has taken over management from Headmistress Flora, and he's locked down the school tighter than the Pied Piper's pants. Not that this news concerns Gilly. She's been released from FTRS and is now suffering through attending Jack of All Trades School, where she gets to learn about different kinds of shoe leather and ways to measure feet. Truly riveting stuff.

But when Gilly's little sister Anna gets whisked off to FTRS thanks to her troublemaking new friends, Hansel and Gretel, Gilly knows she's got to get Anna out of there. There's only one thing to do; make some serious trouble and get thrown back into FTRS.

It's time to out-trick a trickster.

Tricked releases on March 7, 2017, from Sourcebooks Jabberwocky

When I first heard about the Fairy Tale Reform School series, I have to say I was a bit concerned that it would be handled in an excessively cheesy way. I expected something a little more akin to Shrek than a fleshed out fantasy world, and while this series can get a little cheesy at times, it is a very fun and adventurous series. I'm excited to find out where the characters go from here and what the dastardly villain is planning.

Lord of Shadows (The Dark Artifices #2) by Cassandra Clare (WOW #19)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

Sunny Los Angeles can be a dark place indeed in Cassandra Clare’s Lord of Shadows, the sequel to the #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Lady Midnight.

Emma Carstairs has finally avenged her parents. She thought she’d be at peace. But she is anything but calm. Torn between her desire for her parabatai Julian and her desire to protect him from the brutal consequences of parabatai relationships, she has begun dating his brother, Mark. But Mark has spent the past five years trapped in Faerie; can he ever truly be a Shadowhunter again?

And the faerie courts are not silent. The Unseelie King is tired of the Cold Peace, and will no longer concede to the Shadowhunters’ demands. Caught between the demands of faerie and the laws of the Clave, Emma, Julian, and Mark must find a way to come together to defend everything they hold dear—before it’s too late.

Lord of Shadows releases on May 23, 2017 from Margaret K. McElderry Books

Look at that cover! Seriously, it's kind of tripping me out here. I loved Lady Midnight so much, much more than I actually thought I would and I cannot wait to dive back into this fantastic series and see where our heroes will go next and what dangers they may face. On a less vague note, I'm particularly interested in the romantic entanglements that seem to center around Mark Blackthorn, he's fake dating Emma, but he had a thing with Cristina, and while he was trapped in Faerie had some sort of romantic relationship with the dark faerie prince Kieran. Plus, I'm interested to see how the reawakening of Lady Midnight will factor into the overall storyline since it's not mentioned here.

Gah! This is pretty much my all time favorite series! Every single book is better than the last, and I can't wait to see what's to come in this series. Empire of Dust (Blood of Gods and Royals #2) by Eleanor Herman (WOW #16)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

In Macedon, war rises like smoke, forbidden romance blooms and ancient magic tempered with rage threatens to turn an empire to dust

After winning his first battle, Prince Alexander fights to become the ruler his kingdom demands—but the line between leader and tyrant blurs with each new threat.

Meanwhile, Hephaestion, cast aside by Alexander for killing the wrong man, must conceal the devastating secret of a divine prophecy from Katerina even as the two of them are thrust together on a dangerous mission to Egypt.

The warrior, Jacob, determined to forget his first love, vows to eradicate the ancient Blood Magics and believes that royal prisoner Cynane holds the key to Macedon's undoing.

And in chains, the Persian princess Zofia still longs to find the Spirit Eaters, but first must grapple with the secrets of her handsome—and deadly—captor.

New York Times bestselling author Eleanor Herman entwines the real scandals of history with epic fantasy to reimagine the world's most brilliant ruler, Alexander the Great, in the second book of the Blood of Gods and Royals series.

Empire of Dust releases on June 28, 2016 from Harlequin Teen

So, I'm still not sure about these new covers. The original one for the first book felt so epic fantasy but these new ones, while nice, feel a bit too Historical Fiction, for how epic the series is so far. While I do have characters I couldn't care less about *cough* Jacob *cough* I am really interested to see where all of these characters end up, especially Zofia who's story I sort of felt cheated out of in the first book.

Frost Like Night releases on September 20, 2016 from Balzer + Bray

I'm so in love with this trilogy and can't wait to see how it ends. What I find interesting though is that there's no mention of Theron, and from what I remember he's not dead, so I'll be interested to see how that all pans out. A mole behind those safe, Cathedral walls has begun whispering through the survivors that Joclyn is unstable, that her magic is an uncontainable force that will destroy them all in the end.

Determined not to let the rumors affect her, Joclyn battles ahead, only to have reality and sight intersect in an explosion that shatters the walls between future, past, and present, leaving her imprisoned in a seamless existence she must learn to control … before Edmund and Ovailia control her.

Before Sain unfurls the plan he has been orchestrating for centuries.

Dawn of Ash releases on February 23, 2016 from Imdalind Press

I'm absolutely obsessed with Ethington's Imdalind series. It's so original and unique. Her writing style is fantastic and I can't wait to see where she takes this characters next. If you want to read my review of the first book in this series Kiss of Fire (which I believe is currently free on most if not all e-book providers) click here!

So, what are you waiting for this Wednesday?

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire (Untitled #1) by Rosamund Hodge (WOW #7)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone’s excited about!

When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.

The heirs of the city’s most powerful—and warring—families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clan—and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.

Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrong—killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. If he wants to discover the truth of what happened, Paris must delve deep into the city, ally with his worst enemy . . . and perhaps turn against his own clan.

Mahyanai Runajo just wants to protect her city—but she’s the only one who believes it’s in peril. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of death—and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl. Runajo quickly discovers Juliet might be the one person who can help her recover the secret to saving Viyara.

Both pairs will find friendship where they least expect it. Both will find that Viyara holds more secrets and dangers than anyone ever expected. And outside the walls, death is waiting. . . .

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire releases on September 27, 2016 from Balzer + Bray

Okay this sounds... creepy, and a bit complicated, but I can't wait to read it. I've read Hodge's other books and the way she retells stories is phenomenal. I'll be interested to see if the two books in this "series" come out as a duology or companion novels.
