Book Review: Tiger's Voyage (The Tiger Saga #3)

Release Date: November 1, 2011
Author: Colleen Houck
Publisher: Splinter Publishing
Length: 543 pages

The third book in the gripping Tiger's Curse series!

With the head-to-head battle against the villainous Lokesh behind her, Kelsey confronts a new heartbreak: in the wake of his traumatic experience, her beloved Ren no longer remembers who she is. As the trio continues their quest by challenging five cunning and duplicitous dragons, Ren and Kishan once more vie for her affections--leaving Kelsey more confused than ever.

Fraught with danger, filled with magic, and packed with romance, TIger's Voyage brings Kelsey and her two tiger princes one step closer to breaking the curse.

Review:

Characters: Once again Kelsey Hayes's heart is broken, this time it's because her boyfriend Ren doesn't remember who she is. As she tries to deal with this latest blow, she also needs to get started on the next part of Durga's prophecy. Kelsey's ability to set aside her emotions when she needs to is this installment is very commendable. Even though her emotions get the better of her in less severe situations, she can still keep a professional demeanor when it comes to breaking the tiger's curse. Kelsey has developed into a strong and fierce warrior, whether she wants to admit it or not, she's not afraid to help out her tiger's when there's danger around and she can certainly hold her own against many enemies.

Romance: Okay, this has just gotten insane. I could barely keep up with the love triangle, one minute it's all about Ren, then the next minute she'll switch to Kishan, then back to Ren. I got so lost on who, what and where that I stopped thinking about the love triangle and started focusing on the plot and adventure side more, however despite the flip-flopping of Kelsey's heart this has to be one of the most original ways I've seen to approach a love triangle.

Myths and Legends: One of my favorite parts of this saga is the incorporation of mythology into every book, and this one was probably the best incorporation of myths and legends. My favorite chapter was where Kelsey meets a woman who tells her story of magic and wonder and how the goddess Durga helped her through her struggle. There is also another tale that involves the goddess and her black pearl necklace.

Predictability: Like I had said in the Romance section, this book was like whip-lash, but not necessarily in a bad way. It was just full of so many twists and turns I could barely keep up. I love how the author weaves the foreshadowing into her books. I was completely in the dark to them until it was too late.

Ending: Seriously!? Once again Ms. Colleen writes an absolutely heartbreaking ending that leaves the reader wanting the next installment right away. I still cannot believe an author could put their characters through so much turmoil and strife, and for me to love the drama of is so much is practically cruel.

Rating:

This book was amazing, it was full of so much more myth and mystery than the other ones making it probably my favorite installment of the series so far. I can't wait to see how this series will end and what adventures are still to come.
