Book Review: Hidden by P.C. and Kristin Cast

Release Date: October 16, 2012

Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Length: 320 pages

"At last, Zoey has what she wanted: the truth is out. Neferet's evil has been exposed, and the High Council is no longer on her side -- but she's far from done wreaking havoc in the vampyre world. First, a mysterious fire ravages the stables. Then, Neferet makes a devastating move that will test them all.
With the seeds of distrust sown and Darkness breeding chaos at the House of Night, everyone must band together -- but that's proving to be more difficult than ever before. The twins are barely speaking and the House of Night's former enemy, Kalona, has now become their warrior, pushing their trust to the limit. To top it off, Zoey is pretty darn sure she might be losing her mind. She saw something when she looked at Aurox through the Seer Stone that she can hardly explain to herself, let alone her friends. Is it possible that Heath has come back in a different form? Is that why Zoey's so intrigued by Aurox, when it's so obvious that he's dangerous? And who would believe her if she told them? Zoey knows that following her instinct about Aurox might be just what they need to defeat evil . . . but if she's wrong, it could cause the destruction of those closest to her. With the tension at a breaking point and friendships on the line, can the nerd herd come together to stop the spread of Darkness before it's too late?"

Review:

Characters: Zoey and her Nerd Herd are back! However things have changed at the Tulsa House of Night. In the wake of destruction and despair enemies will become friends and friends become untrustworthy. Neferet, not planning on being outed was caught off guard when Thanatos' reveal ritual worked, however this dark priestess isn't without a plan B, so don't expect the end of this series just yet. Also, the argument between the Twins comes to a head and you won't believe the outcome. Finally, doubts about Kalona and Aurox's trustworthiness comes into play multiple times over the course of the book, and with parts of the book being told from their perspectives it's not to hard to see the side they're really on.

Romance: The romance of this entire series is so whacked. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, because I actually enjoy it, but it's so complicated that I could spend and entire blog post talking about it, and this installment's no different. In addition to the couples that already existed from the last book there is some more change going on. A few new romances pop up without much elaboration, yet. There is one possible new romance that I'm not entirely sure if it's obvious or if my book sensing has just gone crazy. Anyway, the book lives up to it's legacy in complex relationships.

Predictability: I'm not sure if I had my blinders on for this one or if it was just that amazingly unpredictable, but I couldn't really see where the plot was going to go and was glad to see it twist and maneuver in various ways. There were some times that I could see something coming, but there always is. However for most of it I was just left with more unanswered questions that I'm sure will be answered within the next two books.

Ending: The end left me with more questions than answers, as I said above. It ended in a rather interesting way, and had some parts to it that I could have never seen coming which was fun, but for the most part I'm just confused and eager to read the next installment so I can find out more about what's going on and what will happen with these characters I've grown to love.

Overall, this gets 5 out of 5 stars, it's a great addition to this series and leaves me with unanswered questions and a thirst for more.
